The Plight of Indebted Slavery

In Pakistan, countless families are ensnared in a vicious cycle of debt and forced labor within the brick kiln industry. These families borrow small sums of money from kiln owners during times of distress, only to find themselves unable to repay the debt due to exorbitant interest rates and unfair labor practices. As a result, they are forced to work in inhumane conditions, often for generations, to repay what started as a minor loan.

Life Set Free Ministries is dedicated to breaking this cycle of modern-day slavery. We provide funding, prayer, and support to Pakistani Christian leaders who work tirelessly to free these families. Our mission is to ensure that once the debt is paid in full, the families are released as mandated by Pakistani law, allowing them to reclaim their lives and futures.

The Process for Families Liberated from Brick Kiln Slavery in Pakistan

Stage 1

Identification

LSFMinistries’ partners in Pakistan identify a family in need of liberation from indebted slavery in one of the thousands of brick kilns. Often, these are Christian families who face threats or abuse, many whom have suffered severe harm or death due to the brutality of the brick factory owners.

Stage 2

Documentation & Awareness

LSFMinistries receives a photo and a brief biography of the family, detailing how they became indebted, current distress, and the amount owed. Life Set Free Ministries creates a bio-sketch flyer for each family and shares it with supporters and partners.

Stage 3

Funding

Upon securing the necessary funds, LSFMinistries transfers the money to their partners in Pakistan.

Stage 4

Negotiation

Leaders in Pakistan receive court documentation to liberate the family and personally meet with the brick kiln owner to negotiate the family’s release by settling the outstanding debt. 

Stage 5

Liberation

The families are immediately freed. Partners in Pakistan assist with moving their limited belongings. Photos of the family taken during the move and in their new home are sent to Life Set Free Ministries.

Stage 6

Housing & Assistance

The family is provided with 3-5 months of free housing in a nearby village or town. The family is gifted a small business and taught how to run the business, such as selling produce.
